The Core
Columbia University's core requirements provide the foundation for a traditional liberal arts education, assuring that students develop critical skills in writing and quantitative reasoning while exposing them to a range of knowledge and disciplines. Flexibility within the Core allows students to choose from several different departments to fulfill specific requirements in science, literature, humanities, and social sciences, thereby encouraging students to explore new areas of inquiry and develop their intellectual interests.
Dual Degree Program students will fulfill many of the Core requirements through transfer classes from Trinity . The courses completed are highly dependent on the major track pursued by the student at TCD. Columbia advisors will communicate with individual students regarding their progress during site visits in years one and two of the program.
During their time at Trinity, Dual Degree students will begin studying to fulfill the Foreign Language requirement for their Columbia Core. The table below reflects the languages available to students in specific academic tracks at Trinity. Students in one of these academic tracks who are not already proficient in a language other than English at the time of their admission to the Dual Degree Program will choose an option from the list below to begin during their studies at Trinity:
